Saturday morning plans were disrupted for residents of an apartment building as police told them to stay inside their bedrooms as authorities called for backup and a swat team on January 23, 2016.

Sioux Falls Police  responded to 5009 W. Equestrian Pl #1109 to assist a citizen in a picking up some property.  When they arrived they found the individual who had the property to be armed and suicidal.

Officers tried to get the subject to put down his weapons and come out but he refused.   Due to the dangerous situation to citizens and officers, the SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams were requested to assist in the incident.  They responded and after several hours of negotiations the subject peacefully surrendered to officers.  He was taken to Jamison Annex for a parole violation and provided mental health assistance.
