There is a good reason our vehicles look like we've just driven them out of the Dead Sea. Every snow event requires a generous layer of de-icer chemicals and salt to keep the roads safe for motorists, and Sioux Falls has experienced a whopping 70 snow events from November 1, 2013, through March 11, 2014.

To add to the fun, weather forecasters are looking at another possibility of snow Tuesday.

Sioux Falls Fleet and Street operations manager, Gaylynn Huber, says his crews have put down more salt this season than he's ever seen in his career.

Let's look at this winter by the numbers:

Tons of salt and de-icing chemicals used: 21,981 (That's over 1 million bags of 40lb.  softener salt!)
