During the Wednesday morning police briefing, Sioux Falls Police Captain Blaine Larson announce that the Police Department investigated six homicides in 2014 and solved all six cases.  Blaine says the 100% clearance rate is outstanding considering according to the FBI, the 2013 national average is 64%.

The clearance rates of other serious crimes in Sioux Falls also beat national averages. The FBI defines serious crimes as include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and stolen vehicles.

Police Chief Doug Barthel says "the clearance rates of homicides and other serious crimes in Sioux Falls speak to the level of professionalism of our officers and detectives. We have a top-notch department that serves the citizens well."

In half of the homicides last year, the victim was involved in some type of relationship with the suspect.  In the other homicides, the connection between victim and suspect varied from acquaintance to stranger.
