The Sioux Falls Police have done something that would even make homicide detective Lieutenant Columbo proud, they closed all six homicide cases last year, extending the city's perfect record into its 16th year.

You certainly can't say the Sioux Falls PD isn't doing their job. Not a single homicide case has gone unsolved since 1999. That helps rank Sioux Falls above the national average rate in all criminal areas, according to recent FBI clearance rate data.

Clearance rate data is the percentage of total cases that were "cleared," which means they either ended with an arrest or the case ended up pinpointing and gathering a sufficient amount of evidence for offenders who could not be arrested for a variety of reasons.

Crime Stoppers has helped play a huge role in the success rate of the Sioux Falls Police Department.

Captain Blaine Larsen, investigative services commander says, "It's citizen tips and information that help us have these incredible numbers."

The Sioux Falls clearance rates consistently top the national clearance rate averages from year to year. Last year the national average was 64 percent.
