Sioux Falls Police Officer Assaulted by Transient
Information Officer Sam Clemens said police received a report saturday afternoon about a man exposing himself at Whittier Park, and an officer found someone matching the suspect description at 4th Street and North Indiana Avenue:
“As he was trying to talk to this guy the suspect ended up punching the officer a few times in the head,” explained Clemens. “The officer was able to get him onto the ground and was eventually able to get him into handcuffs.”
The suspect was found to be in possession of a knife.
“He had an open knife, about a 6-inch folding knife, but it was in its locked open position that was in his pocket,” said Clemens.
In addition, the suspect was also found to be highly intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of .341.
Clemens said 24-year-old Mabior Kor Tong was arrested and charged with simple assault on a law officer, which is a felony, threatening an officer, obstruction, fleeing police, resisting arrest and possession of a concealed weapon.
The 38-year-old officer was treated at a hospital and released.
