A Sioux Falls man allegedly strangled a woman in her apartment on Saturday demanding she give him her cell phone.

"One of the two women knows the guy," according to Police Spokesman Sam Clemens. "He ended up following the women to their apartment nearby. Once inside he pushed the woman he knows to the ground and started choking her. He wanted her cell phone. As soon as she gave it to him, the assault ended. He left. She started following him."

Shortly after that, Clemens says the suspect was picked up.

"They ended up at a convenience store nearby. There was some type of fight going on and police were called. We learned of the robbery and the suspect was arrested for robbery. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find the woman's cell phone."

Clemens identified the man as 40-year-old Darrick Sheldon, a Sioux Falls transient.
