South Dakota Highway Patrol and Sioux Falls Police were led on a high speed chase Monday morning that started in Sioux Falls near Russell Avenue and ended just south of Brookings on I-29 after speeds reached 100 mph.

24-year old Richard Paul Olson Jr. was spotted leaving the Sioux Falls Inn about 8:30am. Olson was wanted for not following terms of his parole and was considered high priority because of the crimes he committed: assault on law enforcement. He also has a federal warrant on a weapons charge.

Olson and an unidentified passenger took off when officers approached them and sped north on I-29 at speeds up to 100 miles an hour. The chase ended 13 miles south of Brookings when they stopped at mile marker 114.

It's not known whether the other person was charged with a crime.

According to police reports, an ambulance had to be called for Olson on the trip back to Sioux Falls as he started vomiting because he had 'ingested a large amount of drugs, possibly meth'.

Luckily no one was injured in the chase and arrest.
