Thanks to a resident in the 4200 Block of East 12th Street---a Sioux Falls man was arrested for stealing items from unlocked cars Tuesday night.

"Somebody actually saw this take place," Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sam Clemens told us. "They saw a man that was checking car doors in an apartment lot. They were able to call police. The officers arrived on scene and found the suspect. We know he went through at least three different cars. He had taken some gift cards, cell phone battery and some other odds and ends from these cars."

Clemens urges residents to lock their car doors!

"It's just another good reminder that people need to lock their cars. This is a crime that is easy to prevent. But, it's one that we see all the time. In a matter of seconds, somebody can go in and help themselves."

Clemens says 35-year-old Ellis Cournoyer of Sioux Falls was arrested and charged with three counts of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.
