A Sioux Falls paramedic is wanted for allegedly taking money from the home of a woman that died of natural causes. Nicholas David Dahl, 35, of Sioux Falls faces a charge of petty theft.

According to authorities, the woman was found dead in her apartment at 641 S. Main Avenue on June 30. Since no one was present at the time of death, police took note of conditions inside the apartment just in case any suspicious circumstances would arise.

One of the officers noted a wallet with some cash folded up next to it near the apartment entrance when they arrived initially. After paramedics removed the body, a second check revealed the wallet was there but the cash was not.

Police then contacted Paramedics Plus who did a search of the ambulance that was used at the scene. Officer Sam Clemens says the probe was fruitful. “Ultimately, they found some cash inside a backpack that was in the ambulance that seemed to be about the same amount that the officer had noted (in the apartment).”

Clemens says that the money was found in Dahl’s backpack. The estimated amount of cash taken was $44. Police have not yet been able to contact Dahl in an attempt to have him turn himself over to authorities.

Chief Operating Officer Michael Bureau of Paramedics Plus tells the Argus Leader that Dahl no longer works for the organization.
