A stirring comeback has put a Sioux Falls team on the threshold of the Little League World Series. By virtue of a 6-5 win over Missouri, Sioux Falls is in the Midwest Regional Championship game.

Trailing 5-1 going into the final inning, Manager Jeff Riley says his team just needed that one opening to break through.

“When that first guy got on, I knew we were in good shape. Even though down 5-1 (in the sixth). That first guy was the important one. The ride was so emotional. You were on the edge of your seat for every pitch. It was a great atmosphere and so exciting.”

The first six batters reached for Sioux Falls in the pivotal frame and the winning run scored with two outs. Throughout this ride Riley has marveled at his team’s fortitude.

“It’s been such a blessing to be around these 12-year olds. They are fearless, amazing and resilient. A truly remarkable quality that every one of these guys has. When one of them has that confidence, before long it’s running rampant throughout that dugout.”

Iowa and Nebraska will play today (August 10) with the winner of that game advancing to face Missouri tomorrow (August 11).

The winner-take-all championship game is 10:00 AM Saturday morning August 12 at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana to be broadcast live on ESPN television.
