An alert lifeguard at Laurel Oak Pool in Sioux Falls averted what could have been a terrible tragedy on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the pool around 2:40 PM on Tuesday when a 6-year-old girl was found floating in the water by the lifeguard.

The 17-year-old lifeguard immediately pulled the child from the water and began CPR.

According to authorities the girl began to breathe on her own and regained consciousness shortly after CPR was administered.

The young girl was then taken to the hospital by ambulance and is expected to make a full recovery.

Kudos to the Laurel Oak Pool lifeguard. Because of alert, trained professionals like you, parents all over the Sioux Empire can take comfort in knowing their children are being supervised and cared for while swimming in the Sioux Falls public pools.
