The city of Sioux Falls is growing at a rapid pace.

That fact is proven each and every year when you take a look at the city's expanding borders. With all the new growth comes the need for additional public safety buildings, enter Fire Station #11.

Sioux Falls latest state of the art fire station located at Valley View Road and Maple Street, opened last week, but Wednesday the new facility was honored as residents and city leaders gathered for a special ribbon cutting ceremony.

According to Fire Rescue Chief Jim Sideras, the new fire station will serve the rapidly growing northwest area of the city. This station is the newest station. Like all of them, it's built on the intersection of "courage and compassion.” That’s what we expect from our firefighters to deliver that level of service to this growing area of Sioux Falls."

During the special ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, many city leaders received the opportunity to share their personal experiences with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and were able to thank firefighters and paramedics in person.

Fire Station #11 will be operated by 15 staff members and includes everything from a three-bay apparatus garage, five sleeping rooms, a physical training area, a laundry area, a living room and Battalion Chief headquarters.

The goal of the new fire station is to reach the people in their territory within five minutes and 12 seconds, according to Sideras.
