Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Mike Topp says investigators have discovered the cause of a house fire on North Tenth Avenue early Sunday morning.

"So far evidence points to it being an accidental fire. It appears so far that we're leaning toward smoking materials as the cause of the fire. Cigarettes, lighters, matches, ashtray, we're not narrowing it down any further."

Top doesn't believe there was a smoke detector in the house.

"It's been a little bit over three years since our last fire fatality in the city of Sioux Falls. That appears to be a recurring theme. Either the smoke alarms aren't working, in the wrong place or just not there at all. The evidence we found in this house was there wasn't a smoke alarm."

The identity of the female victim has not been released by authorities. The occupant had sustained fatal injuries.
