Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and the American Red Cross teamed up together Saturday in Sioux Falls to make residents aware of the importance of smoke alarms. Fire Marshall Dean Lanier was there.

“We have a great partnership with Augustana University and the University of Sioux Falls. We sent out over 70 volunteers to go door to door in the neighborhoods. During the activities, they installed more than 200 smoke alarms and did over 40 blood pressure checks. Some of the alarms we checked were not working so we replaced them. We had a really good day.”

If you would like to have your smoke alarms checked, Dean encourages you to contact Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.

“If you have questions about fire safety in your home---give us a call. We will be more than happy to either talk with your over the phone or visit you in person. Our inspectors and our firefighters will come and get the correct smoke alarms in the proper locations. It’s about a fifteen minute visit. We are in and out the door!”

The number to call for Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is 367-8093.
