The growth of any city is, and probably always will be a double-edged sword. You want your city to advance socially and economically, but you'd like to avoid the growing pains which can be part and parcel of that growth.

WalletHub has done an extensive study to determine the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. and although Sioux Falls is nowhere near the fastest-growing overall (ranked 139th), in our category of mid-size cities (100 to 300 thousand in population) we ranked 76th out of 249.

For this study they used two categories: 1) Sociodemographics and 2) Jobs & Economy. Within those categories they looked at population and job growth, the number of college-educated citizens, median household incomes, unemployment and poverty rates, housing prices, the number of businesses and much more.

They used data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the National Venture Capital Association among others.

I think the bottom line is growth is good. But just how much growth?
