After enjoying a run of five number one rankings in eight years, Sioux Falls has slipped a bit on the list of safest driving cities in the country.

According to the ninth annual Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report, South Dakota’s largest city is the third safest in the U.S., behind Fort Collins, Colorado and Boise, Idaho.¬† Sioux Falls had been #1 in five of the previous eight years, including last year.

Each year, Allstate does an in-depth analysis of claims to determine the likelihood drivers in America’s 200 largest cities will experience an accident compared to the national average.

Drivers in Sioux Falls are nearly 22 percent less likely to be in a collision compared to the national average, going, on average, nearly 13 years between accidents.

The rest of the Top Ten:

4. Brownsville, Texas

5. Madison, Wisconsin

6. Reno, Nevada

7. Huntsville, Alabama

8. Visalia, California

9. Montgomery, Alabama

10. Eugene, Oregon

The worst driving cities are:

1. Washington D.C.

2. Baltimore

3. Providence, Rhode Island

4. Hialeah, Florida

5. Glendale, California

Last year, when Sioux Falls held the top ranking, drivers were 28 percent less likely to be in a collision compared to the national average, going, on average, nearly 14 years  between accidents.
