The Sioux Falls Canaries backed up starting pitcher Misael Siverio’s strong pitching performance with a big offensive night to defeat the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks by the final score of 9-3 on Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.

Siverio picked up his third win of the season after allowing three runs on four hits over six innings. The Cuban left-hander retired the first seven batters of the night, and did not allow a run until there were two outs in the bottom of the 4th inning when Josh Mazzola scored on a Brian Humphries ground ball out.

The Canaries took their first lead of the night in the top of the 3rd inning after Nolan Johnson and Ethan Chapman led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Ozney Guillen put the Birds on the board with a one-out RBI single. Jake Taylor Broke the game open two batters later, driving in Guillen and Chapman with a two-out RBI triple.

Siverio (3-3, 5.83 ERA) took the 3-1 lead into the 6th but ran into some trouble, walking leadoff batter Ryan Pineda before Mazzola tied the game up at 3-3 with a two-run homerun over the wall in right. Siverio finished his night with 103 pitches, and recorded seven strikeouts for the fourth time this season.

Redhawks starting pitcher Tyler Alexander suffered his second loss of the season after allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits over 6 2/3 innings. The left-hander matched a season high with nine strikeouts, but the Canaries offense put together two big innings to spoil his night.

The Canaries took their second, and final lead of the night in the top of the 7th inning after Cameron Monger led off the inning with a double down the right-field line. Monger scored the go ahead run two batters later on a throwing error from Redhawks third baseman Ryan Wagner. Taylor came up big again for the Birds, driving in two more runs with an RBI single before Ryan Lashley put the game away for good with a two-out, three-run double.

Guillen finished the night going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, extending his hitting streak to a team-best 13 games in the win. Taylor finished his night going 3-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored.

The Canaries go for the series win on Thursday afternoon with RHP Shawn Blackwell (3-2, 6.05 ERA) making his 7th start of the season against Redhawks RHP Tyler Herron (4-1, 0.74 ERA) with first pitch scheduled for 12:30 PM.
