A Sioux Falls resident was scammed out of $8,000 by a man claiming to be from the IRS during a phone call.

"The person making the call had some information about some past work places," according to Police Spokesman Sam Clemens. "He sounded very convincing. The Sioux Falls man believed the caller when he said---unless the money is paid right away some U.S. Marshals will come to his house and arrest him."

Unfortunately, the 38-year-old man sent the money!

"The man went to the bank and wired the money to these people. It was sometime after the call he realized the whole thing was a scam. It's just
another indication that we see lot of variations in these calls. The IRS scam pops up every now and then. The IRS doesn't make phone calls. They send out letters."

If you get one of these calls, Clemens urges you call the IRS or police.
