Simi Valley Fireworks Explosion [VIDEO]

28 people were injured in the late night hours on the 4th of July celebrations when a fireworks display went awry. This video, shot by Cameron Wapner in Simi Valley, Ca.

According to eyewitnesses, about 4 to 5 rockets shot straight into the air, as planned, then the explosion occurred on the ground with a lot of force. People were taking cover. Due to the large number of emergency personnel already on hand for the display, the wounded were tended to quickly.

Authorities said the crowd was estimated at 8,000 to 10,000. Some people were taken by ambulance to area hospitals. Most of the injuries were described as shrapnel-like injuries or burns.

According to the L.A. Times, Police Cmdr. Stephanie Shannon said there is no indication of foul play and that the explosion appears to be an industrial accident.
