Should the WNBA Lower Hoops for Women? — Sports Survey of the Day

Getty Images

Women’s basketball isn’t growing in popularity, and University of Connecticut head coach Geno Auriemma thinks he knows the reason why.

Auriemma says that if you want more people to watch and attend women’s basketball, you need to lower the hoops. He says that players miss shots because the hoops are too high, which slows the game down and causes people to lose interest. (And by the way, in case you didn’t know, there is a new WNBA champion: the Indiana Fever.)

Is this something that could cause the women’s game to gain prominence? Well, a lot of things would be easier if you changed the rules. Maybe the NHL should consider using soccer-size goals to make things more exciting—if, of course, there even is an NHL anymore.
