This news isn't too hard to believe, especially after that soaker Mother Nature gave us on Thursday night. The state of South Dakota is drought free!

Thursday nights storm dumped 6 to 8  inches of rain in southwest Sioux Falls in just a little over an hour creating flood conditions all over the Sioux Empire.

After surveying some of the flooding damage from around the area, there's no doubt the hot topic around the water cooler today will be, "Do you have the number for Intek?" or "Hello Prudential!"

Needless to say, the state isn't suffering from a shortage of precipitation at the moment.

For the second consecutive week, every single section of the state is completely drought free according to the U.S. Drought Monitor map.

The folks out at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls report this back to back two week period is the first time the state has been completely drought free since July of 2011.

The weekly monitor maps are put out by the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
