Friday night was full of great football. We now have the championship games set in 11AAA, 11AA, and 11A.

11AAA

Sioux Falls Washington 28, Brandon Valley 21

Two very good games took place at Howard Wood Field. Washington and Brandon Valley opened up the semifinal round and Washington took a quick 13-0 lead. After trailing 20-7, Brandon Valley rallied in the third quarter to take a 21-20 lead. With 7:47 left to play, Jack Schelhaas of Washington found Ty Smith for a touchdown that lead to a seven point lead after a successful two point conversion. The Warrior's Thayer Smith was able to come up with a fumble recovery to ensure a victory on the Lynx's final drive.

Sioux Falls O'Gorman 27, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 23

The city rivalry between O'Gorman and Roosevelt added another chapter on Friday night. Roosevelt jumped out quickly on a nine play, 65 yard drive. That was answered right back by O'Gorman on a six play 86 yard drive to tie the game at seven. There was really no separation throughout the game between the two teams. O'Gorman and Roosevelt found themselves tied at seven, 14, and 20 right after a team took the lead. The difference at the end came when Roosevelt gained only four yards on seven plays (penalties pushing them back) and settled for a 35-yard field goal. O'Gorman then took over five minutes off the clock ending the drive with a Luke Fritsch to Jack Peery touchdown pass. Roosevelt's following drive ended with a fumble to secure the trip for O'Gorman.

11AA

Yankton 19, Harrisburg 7

Another couple of close games took place in 11AA. The first quarter between Yankton and Harrisburg ended with no score. Harrisburg scored first in the second quarter to take a 7-0 lead going into the half. It became all Yankton in the second half. More impressively, the Bucks scored in every facet of the game during the last 24 minutes. Yankton received a defensive touchdown from Ryan Terca to tie the game. Yankton kicker Jared Rafferty connected on a field goal to go up 10-7. Harrisburg mishandled a snap on a punt that led to a safety. The Bucks then put the game away with a Nate Stephenson rushing touchdown.

Yankton will be making their second consecutive appearance for a 11AA title.

Pierre 41, Mitchell 26

Pierre and Mitchell stayed pretty even throughout the first half. Mitchell opened the game with a touchdown, but Pierre countered right back. Both teams exchanged another touchdown each to end the first quarter 14-14. Brevin Kaiser took over in the second half for the Govs. He scored twice rushing the football, and threw a passing touchdown to break the game open in the third. The Govs led 34-14 after three. Mitchell drew a little closer in the fourth trailing 34-20, but Pierre countered right back to go up 41-20 and end any form of a comeback.

11A

Madison 28, Sioux Falls Christian 14

The last time these two teams met it took overtime to decide it. On Friday night, it took a second half. The opening quarter went scoreless, but in the second the two teams started trading touchdowns. Madison took control into the locker room with a 14-8 lead. Madison scored quickly to open the second half, and went into the fourth quarter with a 21-8 advantage. Sioux Falls Christian went down the field to score first in the fourth quarter on a eight yard touchdown run. With just over five minutes left, Madison scored again to take a two possession lead and take the victory 28-14.

Madison will appear in their third consecutive 11A championship game.

West Central 35, Lennox 0

Lennox shocked South Dakota last weekend when they defeated second seeded St. Thomas More on the road. Unfortunately they ran into Kent Mueller's West Central Trojans in the semifinals. The Trojans opened the game converting on a 4th and goal from the one yard line. West Central continued to power forward leading Lennox 28-0 at halftime. One final touchdown is all West Central needed in the second half, and they received that from Jordan Rechtenbaugh to make it 35-0. Lennox couldn't manage much offensively against West Central.

West Central will make their 15th appearance in a 11A championship game. They have won 11 of 14, including a 2013 28-21 win over Madison.
