Saturday saw the launch of the USS Sioux City. It's the nation's 11th littoral combat ship, a class of ship designed for action close to shore.

USS Sioux City slid into the Menominee River in Wisconsin after it's christening ceremony Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Fincantieri Marinette Shipyards in Marinette, Wisconsin.

The Sioux City Journal reports that the ship will now spend a year testing in Lake Michigan and be commissioned by the Navy in 2017. It is expected to be based in Mayport, Florida.
