SDSU has had more ups and downs this year than I can recall in recent memory, but one thing that hasn't been down at all is the play of super sophomore Mike Daum.

The man in the middle for the Jacks has been the savior to this team who has really struggled to find consistency all year.

Daum has been lighting up the box score with the ability to near a double double seemingly by just showing up on the court.

On Saturday though, the man took his talents to another level with a 42 point effort in a win over IPFW.

The Jacks improved to 9-13 and 2-5 in the Summit League, but that was a footnote after the 42 and the record number of 3's in the process.

Daum hit a SDSU record ten three pointers and went 10 of 15 from the arc and was completely on fire all day long.

His season averages include 22.8 PPG, 7.9 RPG in 31 minutes per contest.

I loved his game a year ago when he burst onto the scene and I love his game even more right now.

Basketball is played differently than it was 20 years ago and Daum has it figured it.

He slimmed down from a year ago, allowing him to be a little lighter on his feet and setting himself up for a better shot at the next level once his SDSU days are over.

His ability to step outside and crush the 3 as he did on Saturday, puts so much more pressure on the defense because this big guy can not only light it up from downtown, he can play back to the basket ball as good as anyone in the Summit League as well.

Many critiques and skeptics of SDSU as predicting the Jacks to be the odd man out come Summit League Tournament time and I just can't see that happening.

My selfish nature is a part of my distrust in statements like those, because I want to see Mike Daum on that stage where he could single handily carry them deep in that tournament.

Daum is only getting better with each game and that has to be a scary thing for the rest of the league.
