Carly Rieter and incumbent Kent Alberty were elected to the Sioux Falls School Board  Tuesday May 21, 2013. Turnout was the lowest in recent history. Only 3474 people voted  out of 93863 registered.

Incumbent Kent Alberty received 2601 votes. Newcomer Carly Reiter, 1670.  The top two vote getters win.   .

Also in the race were Matt Leedom with 1219 and Joshua Schorzmann 770.    Votes will be canvassed later this week.

Mr. Alberty and Ms. Reiter will be sworn in at an upcoming meeting.

It is disappointing not to have interest in local school board races. Conversation about the quality of students graduating, graduation rates, test scores, and money spent to educate,, are always topics of conversation. Yet when it comes to electing people responsible for the results of the investment, most people don't even know there is an election.
