The Red Cross jumped into action as soon as they knew of the need in Delmont Sunday.

Certainly the recovery process is going to be very long

Brian Shawn with the Red Cross of South Dakota says they are in the first stages of helping those coping with loss.

"At this point we're certainly in response mode. The next couple of days is making sure people have someplace to stay, making sure they have something to eat and someplace to go. Once we get past that point then we'll start to move into individual family needs, providing some financial assistance for clothing and rental assistance and those types of things to help these folks try to start rebuilding and move on with their lives," said Shawn. "Certainly the recovery process is going to be very long.  We're going to make sure we stick with these folks throughout the next several months to get them on the right recovery plan."

The Red Cross team also serves emergency responders and law enforcement in Delmont by providing food, water and a place to sleep.

The best way to help for now is to listen for the plan as it’s developed in the next couple of days for cleanup needs. The Red Cross was at Wessington Springs last year when their tornado hit and many other places in the past.  Donations are what make it possible.
