Mitchell, South Dakota is finally getting a professional basketball team. The Dakota Magic will be Mitchell’s first professional team since 2001-02, when the South Dakota Gold played one season in Mitchell for the International Basketball Association. The South Dakota Gold and the IBA folded after that season.

The National Basketball League of America is made up of former NCAA and NAIA college basketball players who have regional connections. Three teams are currently committed to the league for the 2016 season. The Dakota Magic will play in Mitchell at the Corn Palace; the Omaha Chargers are set to play at Ralston Arena. The league is also looking at adding more teams in Rapid City, Bismarck and Fargo, North Dakota.

Dakota Magic will play against the Sioux City Hornets on May 22, 2016 at the South Sioux City Mini-Dome with the tip at 7PM. Tickets for the game are $20 courtside, $10 GA and kids $5. The NBLA season begins in September of 2016.
