Sunday I reported that a legislative source said that Gov. Dennis Daugaard would expand Medicaid - after the election.

Here's the response I received today from Tony Venhuizen, the governor's spokesperson:

Todd – Not true.

The Governor’s position on this issue is “not never, but not now.” The position he is taking today is the position he will propose to the legislature next year – he would not be saying one thing now if he intended to do something else after the election.

That is why, for example, he has clearly stated his willingness to consider all options when it comes to highway funding – he wants to be completely upfront with the voters.

On the other hand, perhaps even a Republican dominated legislature will want to expand Medicaid next year?

If that is the case - and I'm not saying it is but I am hearing that there is bipartisan support for expansion - Gov. Daugaard, if he wins next month, might find himself in an interesting situation.
