A Sioux Falls man faces burglary and assault charges after he kicked in the front door of an apartment in the 300 block of South Lovell Avenue early Tuesday morning.

"There was a knock at the door," according to Police Spokesman Sam Clemens. "The people inside didn't want anyone else to come in the apartment so they didn't answer the door. It turns out our suspect was outside. He ended up kicking the door and then entered the apartment. He had a knife in his hand."

Within minutes, Clemens says the suspect allegedly attacked one of the three people inside the apartment.

"The suspect walked up to our primary victim and punched him in the face. As the victim held up his hands to defend himself, the suspect swung the knife and cut the victim in the hand. Some of the other people in the apartment distracted the suspect and the victim was able to get away and call police."

Clemens says police officers arrested 24-year-old Ukuk Sebit of Sioux Falls.

The victim was treated for his injuries at a hospital.
