Pink Diamond Goes To Auction
If you like rare gems and have about $60 million dollars to spare, the auction company Sotheby’s in Geneva, Switzerland may have just what you are looking for.
On November 13, Sotheby’s will be auctioning off the 59.60 carat, pink-colored diamond called ‘The Pink Star’. Early estimates say this flaw-less diamond could sell for more than $60 million dollars. And if it does sell for this amount, the pink diamond will go in the history books as the most expensive diamond to have ever been auctioned off. Breaking the 2010 record of a 24.78 carat pink diamond that sold for $46.2 million dollars.
The diamond was originally mined in 1999 in Africa and weighed closer to 200 carats. It was then cut and polished to the its 59.60 carat size and is being called one of the earth’s greatest natural treasures.
If the pink diamond is out of your budget, Sotheby’s will also be auctioning white diamonds for about $28 million dollars and blue diamonds for about $18 million dollars. That auction will be in Hong Kong.
