Some folks when facing tough financial hardships, take heirlooms and other valuables to a pawn shop to raise money.

A new petition on the White House's "We The People" petition site calls for pawning Mount Rushmore to avoid defaulting on the country's debt.

The plan is to pawn Mount Rushmore to the Federal Reserve and then "buy it back later once the cash flow problem is solved."

Of course, pawning one's valuables can be easier than buying them back at a later date.

I'd love to see this on an episode of Pawn Stars, but don't look for it to happen any time soon.

If the U.S. really did pawn Mount Rushmore, how much do you really think the government could get for it?
