The Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department has announced the closing dates of outdoor city swimming pools.

Staffing for the outdoor pools determines the operational hours and closing dates. Many lifeguards are college students who head back to school early or are in high school and have sports practice.

The closing date of the pools is also significant this year, due to many students in Sioux Falls not starting school until after Labor Day. Two pools will remain open through the Sunday before Labor Day.

Here are the pools and their closing dates:

Frank Olson Pool - closing Friday, August 14, 2015

Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center - closing Sunday, August 16, 2015

McKennan Wading Pool - closing Friday, August 21, 2015

Drake Springs Family Aquatic Center - closing Sunday, August 23, 2015

Terrace Park Family Aquatic Center - closing Sunday, September 6, 2015

Kuehn Park Pool - closing Sunday, September 6, 2015

Hours Monday, August 17 - Sunday, August 23 are 1:00 - 8:00 PM daily.

Hours beginning Monday, August 24 through the end of the season:

  • Monday - Friday 4:00 - 8:00 PM
  • Saturday and Sunday 1:00 - 8:00 PM

Pioneer Spray Park will remain open from 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM daily through September, weather permitting.

If Fido likes to take a dip, "Swimming Gone to the Dogs" will take place at two locations at the end of the season. Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center will host the event on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 5:30-7:00 PM and Terrace Park Family Aquatic Center on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 5:30-7:00 PM.
