I have to share with you something I did earlier this week. I followed the advice of the Doobie Brothers and "Listened to the music." I sat on the front porch of our house and listened to music non-stop for three hours - and it was great!

There really is some truth to that old saying "Music soothes the savage beast." Up until my porch time, I was having kind of a rough day, so I decided to just "chill" for a bit and listen to the some of my favorite tunes. The next thing I knew, it was three hours later!

I'm always amazed how when listening to music my mood can go from negative to positive in just a matter of moments. For me, it's listening to anything by "Earth, Wind & Fire" - specifically the song "September." When I hear that song, I can't help by smile.

I don't know what it is, but there's something extremely relaxing about listening to music and watching the world go by. Personally, I think we all need to take more time for ourselves and "escape" from the real world for a bit. It's does the body and soul good.

Back on the first of the year, when most people make a resolution to lose weight or be a better person, I decided to challenge myself to listen to more music. It's something I've always enjoyed, but found myself doing less and less of - why, I don't know.

In fact, I'm such a believer in music that my wife Suzette and I have a deal that when the time comes that I'm lying on my death bed, I want to be surrounded by family listening to music. You might laugh, but I've even started a list of my favorite songs (1400 and counting)

With smart phones and everything now being digital, it's easier than ever to compile a list of your favorite songs. So, my challenge to you the next time you find yourself in a bad mood, give it a try - start putting together your favorites list. Someday you'll thank me.
