I haven't heard if this has made it to the immediate Sioux Falls area of not.  If not yet I'm sure the crooks will be trying it here soon, so beware.

The Hughes County Sheriff’s Office is warning area residents to be aware of a new scam.

In the past couple of days the Sheriff’s Office and the Pierre Police Department have received calls from citizens saying they have been contacted from someone claiming to be a sheriff’s deputy with the warrant division. The caller will then say the citizen has a warrant out for their arrest and asks them to send a money order or pre-paid debit card.

The Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens that this is scam. Residents should not exchange any information over the phone.
