New Details In JonBenet Case

Another revelation in the Jon Benet Ramsey case.  A grand jury voted to indict John and Patsy Ramsey on charges of child abuse resulting in death, but the prosecutor decided not to bring charges against the couple.

Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter told the media back then his office did not have enough evidence in the case to bring the Ramseys to trial, although they remained prime suspects in the case until 2008, when they were absolved of any wrong doing.

Child abuse resulting in death charged with “knowingly and recklessly” is a Class II felony that could have resulted in up to 48 years in prison.

Jon Benet Ramsey was found bludgeoned and strangled to death December 25, 1996 in her Colorado home.  She was just 6 years old.  A ransom note was found written by individuals claiming to be from a foreign faction asked for $118,000 in exchange for the safe return of Jon Benet.  No call ever came from a kidnapper and it was never linked to a murder.

The entire family was absolved of any crime in 2008, due to newly discovered DNA evidence that pointed to a possible third party that still serves as a vague lead for authorities working on the case.  Patsy Ramsey died of ovarian cancer in 2006 and was still considered a suspect when she died.

The Jon Benet Ramsey murder remains one of the most notorious crimes in U.S. history.  If she were still alive, Jon Benet would be approaching her 23rd birthday.
