Let's face it, you are probably not very productive at the office for the first couple of hours after you get back from lunch. Very few of us are. But you know what might help? A nap. Right there. At work.

Sounds crazy right? But companies like Google, HubSpot, and others, now have on-site areas where employees can grab some winks during the work day. It's commonplace enough now that business websites like Salary.com, BusinessInsider.com, Entrepreneur.com have all published articles extolling the virtues of a little snooze at the workplace.

So does allowing napping at the office help? One company, Nationwide Planning Associates, in New Jersey, brought in a compliance principal who gathered data showing the benefits of napping, scheduled a meeting with management and convinced them to spend $10,000 on a napping plan for employees.

Why are rested employees so important? The Centers for Disease Control found that fatigued workers have trouble concentrating and are more likely to suffer from chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and depression.

So how long is the 'perfect' nap?

That depends on who you ask.

Some experts say 10 minutes will leave you feeling refreshed, without leaving you groggy, while a NASA study showed a nap of 26 minutes can boost productivity by as much as 34 percent and increase alertness by 54 percent.

My best piece of advice for napping at work: before you show up at the office with your bunny slippers and favorite down pillow, check with your boss first or you might be getting all the sleep you need at home, after you're fired!

Sweet dreams!
