Naked Week at College
When people are told about an event that will be happening at one of the oldest Ivy League schools in the United States, they probably don’t believe it. It’s just something said to the incoming Freshmen as an ‘inside joke’. But starting Monday, September 30 and running through Saturday, October 5, Brown University, the United States 7th oldest college, will be hosting ‘Nudity in the Upspace Week’.
This isn’t the first time that Brown University, which is located in Providence, Rhode Island, has hosted a nudity week. Event organizers host this event to face the stigmas of the naked body and to promote that uncomfortable subject of being nude.
But what types of ‘nudity week’ events actually happen in the Production Workshop Upspace, one of the campus’ buildings?
There will be a nude yoga class, which promises to ‘stretch the body in ways that it hasn’t been stretched before’ (mats are provided but bring your own towel), a nude caberet, nude open mic night, nude body painting and plenty of speakers discussing the stereotypes of being nude and body image.
The organizers of nudity week want everyone that attends to realize that ‘being nude is fun’ and that all bodies are welcome. What is not welcome, however, are phones and cameras!
(Shame on you! Did you really think I would put NUDITY WEEK pictures here? Gotcha!)
