Naked Beer Drinkers Surprise Historic Train Passengers
This is the scene passengers “treated” to when they rode the famous historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad on May 25th.
The photo, taken by tourist Jim Slavin, 77, shows naked men and women holding beers, cheering, partying, and showing their full frontal and rear enthusiasm for passengers aboard the train as it was pulling into Durango, Colorado.
I found it quite offensive. Is this the way you want me to remember Durango? I don’t think it is.” – Jim Slavin
The tourist, on vacation from Phoenix, sent the photograph to the Durango city council, mayor, and city police department. The city, in turn, sent Mr. Slavin an apology.
There is no excuse for rude behavior to the guests in Durango. … I hope you will not judge all of our community by the acts of a few.” – Durango City Councilor Sweetie Marbury
It’s not unusual for folks riding the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to be treated to some bare butts. Rafters have been known to “moon” the train in the area for some time. But this is the first time full-frontal nudity has amped it up to the next level.
Jack Llewellyn, executive director of the Durango Chamber of Commerce issued this warning to all would-be future “mooners” and those daring enough to bare it all: “Be careful because they blow steam. You’re going to get scalded.”
