Sioux Falls Police are investigating seven reports of illegitimate currency over the weekend in the city.

In the early stages of the probe, it appears that the seven cases of counterfeit money are merely coincidental. Officer Sam Clemens says the suspect descriptions are all over the map.

“Some descriptions were: white guys, black guys, women, men and different ages. It doesn’t seem at this point there’s anything connecting them.”

The business most affected by the funny money was Casey’s General Store on E. 10th

“That was four fake $100 bills. That person ended up buying a Green Dot card. After they left they noticed it was fake.”

Clemens also says some of the businesses were able to detect the fake bills before making an exchange. The other businesses that reported the counterfeit currency were Mercato’s on W. 11th two Get and Go locations (18th and Marion Rd. plus W. 12th and Valley View), Holiday at 57th and Western, Taco Bell on W. 12th and the Fry’n Pan on W. 12th.
