The Sioux Empire experienced yet another tragic motor vehicle accident late Saturday afternoon as a motorcycle struck a car on the off ramp of interstate 29 and exit 71, taking the life of 26 year old motorcyclist Levi Sandal of Sioux Falls.

The accident happened around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016.

19 year old Joshua Anderson of Sioux Falls failed to see the motorcycle as it was attempting to make a left hand turn.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Anderson's 2005 Hyundai Sonata was exiting Interstate 29 on the southbound off-ramp at mile marker 71. The vehicle came to a complete stop at the intersection and then proceeded to turn east onto 273rd Street. It collided with a westbound 2002 Harley-Davidson FXDWG3 motorcycle.

Sandal, who was not wearing a helmet, died of his injuries. Anderson, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.

Sgt. Steve Swenson with the South Dakota Highway State Patrol said, "It appears that the motorcycle bounced off and the rider of the motorcycle was actually launched several feet from where the motorcycle was."
