For the third time in team history, the Minnesota Twins have the number one overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft.

Minnesota finished with the worst record in the MLB last season (59-103) giving them the first overall pick. The team will also have the 35th overall pick out of the "competitive balance" portion of the draft.

The Twins are 1-1 in terms of picking first in the MLB Draft. In 1983, Minnesota drafted pitcher Tim Belcher. Belcher never signed with the Twins and was instead selected in the MLB Supplemental Draft by the Yankees. He went on to play for the Dodgers from 1987-1991, and was part of the Dodgers World Series team in 1988. His career continued with stints in Cincinnati, Chicago (White Sox), Detroit, Seattle, Kansas City, and Anaheim.

Belcher may not have worked out as a top overall pick for the Twins, but their second opportunity paid off. Joe Mauer was selected first overall in 2001. He has spent his entire career with Minnesota, and had a MVP season in 2009. The St. Paul native is signed with the Twins through the 2018 season.

As for tonight's MLB Draft, it appears that the Twins could move in a couple of different directions. MLB writer Jim Callis tweeted yesterday that he thinks the Twins are going to go with a left-handed pitcher and/or first basemen out of Louisville.

John Manuel of Baseball America says that second baseman Royce Lewis from JSerra Catholic HS in San Juan Capistrano, CA could be a possibility.

CBSSports Mike Axisa has Minnesota selecting right handed pitcher Kyle Wright out of Vanderbilt. Wright is listed as the 3rd best prospect on the MLB Draft Tracker.

It is up in the air yet on who the Twins will select. We'll all find out tonight. The MLB Draft will be shown live on the MLB Network starting at 5:00 CT.
