Chantel Olson started writing Home Front Warriors when her husband Jon returned from Iraq back in 2008.

She set out to document what it is like to be the spouse of a deployed solider.

Her mission statement in her own words: My mission is to bring awareness to the families left behind, spouses, children, and parents.

Here is an excerpt from the book:

"In the beginning, it was so difficult. My heart would ache
because I knew that I couldn’t have Jon next to me, hold his
hand whenever I wanted, or just have the sense of security of knowing he was with me. But as time went on, I learned to be everything that I needed and the kids needed. I had to create my own sense of security, my own independence. I had to be the strong one for the kids even though deep inside, I was probably the weakest of all"
