Country hitmaker Margo Smith is in a Florida hospital’s intensive care unit battling pneumonia and “some other issues.” Friends and family members of the “Don’t Break the Heart That Loves You” singer are asking for prayers.

Smith is currently in the Ocala, Fla. Regional Medical Center, according to the Village-News. Smith’s husband Richard shared her diagnosis with the news site, adding that doctors are hopeful. “Margo is a real fighter,” he says. “Right now we’re asking for [fan] prayers.”

"The Happiest Girl In the Whole USA" singer Donna Fargo was one of Smith’s contemporaries and friends to spread the prayer request. Fargo made a call for prayer partners on Facebook, saying that Smith was also on life support.

In addition to notching several Top 10 hits in the mid-to-late 1970s, Smith is known for her gospel music and her yodeling. In fact, her nickname is the Tennessee Yodeler, with fans referring to her as the best yodeler ever as recently as 2015, when she returned to the stage following a near-fatal car accident. “It Only Hurts for a Little While” and “Little Things Mean a Lot” are two of her other hit songs. She also found success for “Cup of Tea,” a duet with Rex Allen Jr. in 1981.

Smith has continued to perform and record since her commercial success faded. She’s recorded several songs and albums with daughter Holly. There are no pending tour dates at her website.
