Man Thinks Gun is Empty, Shoots in East Sioux Falls Neighborhood

On July 18, 2015 Sioux Falls Police Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of N Lewis Ave reference a shots fired call.  The investigation showed that a 21 year old male had been visiting family in the home and was attempting to remove all rounds from a 9mm handgun that he had recently purchased.  The suspect was unfamiliar with the handgun. When he believed he had it unloaded, he pointed the gun at the hillside and tree line behind the home and pulled the trigger.  The gun fired the round that was in the chamber.  No one was injured in the event.
