RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A jury in Rapid City has convicted an Iraq war veteran of assaulting a police officer.

The Rapid City Journal reports 30-year-old Delano Eagle was charged with aggravated assault but convicted of simple assault, meaning he faces up to two years in prison rather than a maximum sentence of 15 years. He also was convicted of resisting arrest.

Authorities say Eagle struggled with an officer who stopped him on Feb. 26, attempted to choke the officer and reached for his gun. He was subdued by another officer with a stun gun.

Eagle pleaded guilty to third-offense drunken driving earlier this month. He could face up to five years in prison on all of the charges.

Eagle said after the verdict Wednesday that he's getting help for post-traumatic stress disorder.
