Frank Bank, the actor who played Lumpy Rutherford on Leave It To Beaver has died.  He passed away Saturday at the age of 71. The cause of death is not known.

":Lumpy" you may remember, was the bully on the TV show which starred Jerry Mathers as the Beaver.  The show aired from 1957 to 1963, although the show has had many reruns since then.

After learning of his death Mathers issued a statement on Facebook. “I was so sad to hear today of the passing of my dear friend and business associate Frank Bank … He was a character and always kept us laughing. My deepest condolences to Frank’s family.”

Leave It to Beaver’s Clarence Rutherford was known for his size and dim intellect, giving him the nickname “Lumpy.” But his bullying of Beaver and Wally never caused much harm  because of his incompetence. But the real man was nothing like his character. He wrote an autobiography, Call Me Lumpy, which was published in 2002.
