Loretta Lynn has been suffering her share of health setbacks in 2018, but it's apparent her singing chops are as strong as ever when listening to her cover of Roger Miller's bittersweet vintage tune "Half a Mind," which she recorded for the upcoming tribute album King of the Road: A Tribute to Roger Miller.

The song, which was a hit for Ernest Tubb and his Texas Troubadours in 1958, is a contemplative and somewhat pessimistic honky-tonk ballad, which is the exact sweet spot for Lynn's talent. Her voice belies the fact that she's 86 years old; she sounds as clear, sweet, and expressive as in her younger days.

After Lynn suffered a stroke in May 2017, she decided to take it easy for a while and recover her health. By fall of that year, she was performing at the Tennessee Motorcycle and Mhwusic Revival in September; however, she found herself set back again healthwise when she suffered a hip fracture in early 2018. She told fans she was still concentrating on music, however, and we're glad to see that she sounds in fine form to continue pursuing her passion.

King of the Road: A Tribute to Roger Miller is out Aug. 31, and features covers of the iconic songwriter's hits by contemporary artists such as Brad Paisley, Eric Church and Kacey Musgraves; as well as heritage peers including Lynn, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard (in what is said to be one of his last recordings) and even Beatle Ringo Starr.
