Local Boxing Legend Chases Dream to Australia

Retired Sioux Falls Police officer and 4th Degree Black Belt Jerry James has laced up his boxing gloves one more time.  James who operates Top Flight Boxing in Sioux Falls says “Our motto at Top Flight is: We Make Champions out of Ordinary People.”

James wants to set an example for younger boxers by showing them that there are no short cuts in the ring or in life.

You’re Never too Old to Chase your Dreams

Jerry’s love for teaching and participating in the sport of boxing has literally taken him all over the world. At 58, James is showing the older generation you’re never too old to go after the dreams God has put in your heart.

James said after seeing a 72 year old compete in a boxing tournament, he knew it was time for him to climb back into the ring, and compete again.

At that same tournament something else caught his eye… a championship belt.  Over the years he has won countless trophies, ribbons and medals, but not a belt.  That is until now.

The Journey to Australia

In the past ten months, James has claimed two championship belts, the first at the Coconut Creek National Championship in the Masters division.  James then claimed his Second championship belt this August at the Ringside World Championship, also in the Masters Division.

He is currently training to represent the USA by competing in Australia, October 3rd-10th, 2015, in the Australia Masters Games.
