Tuesday afternoon a quick-thinking lifeguard made a life-saving move. It happened about 2:40 PM according to Sioux Falls police.

In a press release, police say a six year-old girl was floating in the water at Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center. A lifeguard alertly pulled the girl from the water realizing that the six year-old was unconscious.

The 17 year-old lifeguard then performed CPR on the girl and soon started breathing on her own after regaining consciousness. The girl was then transported by ambulance to a hospital where it is believed that a full recovery was expected.

After the incident, Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center was closed for an extended time. The facility is on East 49th Street.
