After a sterling record during the past year, a recent survey shows that clerks are checking identification less frequently for alcohol sales. A handful of businesses failed the latest compliance check.

On June 25, 2015 the Sioux Falls Police Department conducted an alcohol compliance check of 27 businesses.  Of the 27 businesses checked, 5 sold to an underage person.

The five businesses that failed are the newest Wal-Mart store on 60th St North, the Dollar General on West 12th Street, the Gas Barrel on West Madison Street, a Shop n Cart on West 12the Street and Hy-Vee on West10th Street.

From May of 2014 through February 2015 over 260 businesses were surveyed and only four businesses failed. That is a success rate of almost 99 percent.  In the previous sting, two businesses were caught out of 26 checked in April of 2015 so the most recent trend is a disregard for the rules.

The clerks that sold alcohol to the person under 21 received a summons to court. The businesses that failed face fines and possible revocation of their liquor license.

According to Sioux Falls police, their goal is to protect the young people of the community. Expect more random alcohol compliance checks in the future.
